How Do I Select a Swimming Pool Builder?

Here are a few things to consider when selecting a swimming pool contractor:

  1. How long has the company been in business?
  2. What is the company’s reputation in the community?
  3. Do they have a clean record with the contractors board?
  4. Are they accredited with the Better Business Bureau?
  5. Do you know a friend or neighbor who has used the same company with good results?
  6. How many pools have they built?
  7. Will the company provide you with a clear written estimate so that you’re not confused about what work will be done?
  8. Will they finish the project on time?
  9. Will the company add hidden charges after the construction process has begun?
  10. Will the company be careful to remove or take care of landscaping and other outdoor structures?
  11. Will they keep your property clean and safe throughout the construction process?
  12. Will the company provide you with unconditional lien releases  upon receiving payment for completed work?

Is The Biggest Builder Better?

Many people think that the bigger the builder the better they must be. Actually the opposite is true in most cases. Builders that have showrooms, advertising and a large staff also have huge overhead. Many times the way they combat the overhead is to use knock off materials, valves and equipment. There is a sweet spot of about 30 to 50 pools per year that allows for unsurpassed quality, great customer service and proper project supervision. We have found the sweet spot and our reputation is spotless.

Why Do Pool Estimates Vary So Much?

The price of a pool is determined by much more than just the size and shape of that pool. Unfortunately, many contractors don’t include important factors that affect cost in the actual estimate they give you. This also means that you can get hit with hidden charges after construction has begun. Some important things to consider are:

  • Quality of Materials
  • Craftsmanship
  • Design Expertise
  • Underground Strength and Durability
  • Customer Service
  • Time Required for Construction
  • Warranties

A Polynesian Pool estimate always includes the highest quality materials available, superior craftsmanship, expert design, and unparalleled customer service. You also get the knowledge and expertise of more than 30 years of custom pool building experience. And we never submit a low introductory bid with the intent of making expensive changes later.

What Affects The Price Of a Pool The Most?

Surprisingly, construction costs for the pool structure itself do not vary greatly from pool to pool. Prices can be affected slightly by ease of access onto your property, demolition requirements prior to construction, and local permit costs. The size and design of the pool affect the cost too, but not as much as you might think.

Much of the variation in price is based on what is called “hardscape.” Hardscape is what is placed around your pool to enhance its design. The size and materials used in your deck, patios, waterfalls, gazebos, planter walls, and other features can be simple or sensational. As the customer, you have the greatest influence on your total budget as you control the design of your pool’s hardscape.

How Do I Choose a Design For My Home?

Each property has unique features that should be considered when your pool is being designed. So does your family! At your request, a design expert from Polynesian Pools will meet with you at your home to discuss your pool needs and desires. He or she will ask you how you intend to use your pool. Is exercise important? How about family use? What about location? Where will the pool look best when viewed from your home?

Does The Equipment Brand Really Matter?

YES! Most large companies are locked into their brand and have negotiated prices for volume buying. This means that they are also usually exclusive to the brand. All brands have their good, better and best products. We use Pentair brand equipment because it is the best for easy repairs and parts are readily available for their products. However, if and when your project can benefit from another product we have no agreements to keep us from recommending another product as an option if we feel it could be a better solution to your particular needs.
